For my visual essay I was inspired by a photo I have held on to for years. This photo of my grandmother is something I've always held dear to me, so I knew instantly that I wanted to do my visual essay based around this photo. I decided to show the visuals of thrift flipping, a concept that has grown substantially over the past over years.

To begin this project I went to my local Goodwill and began hunting for some hidden gems, while I was doing this I began taking b roll and starting to imagine the video in my head. Once I had selected the pieces I wanted to “flip” I took them home and began the flipping process, documenting every step. Finally I had one of my friends model the finished outfit and I took photos with her with the future edits I wanted to make “post-production” in mind.
I edited all the photos through Adobe Lightroom to have different filters, a darker “vintage” inspired one for the beginning and a brighter more “modern” one for the later pictures.
In many of the pictures I added many years to blend multiple elements together and even to blend different photos together! I also added text to some photos to portray my message of the essay.
This assignment helped me
learn a variety of photoshop skills. Layering, text, filtering, and altering perspective were all used to enhance the techniques I implemented when taking the photos. This essay also helped me to perfect my photography skills and to learn more about Fashion.
In the future, having these photoshop skills will be extremely beneficial. In almost every aspect of the fashion world, photoshop is a necessary skill. Now that I have added to my skillset, I will be able to better my editing and overall media skills.
